Answers to help you feel informed, prepared, and supported
01What happens during my first psychiatric appointment?
Your first visit focuses on understanding your symptoms, history, and goals. It’s a conversation, no pressure, no rush so your provider can create a personalized treatment plan.
02Do I have to take medication to see a psychiatrist?
Not at all. Medication is only recommended when it makes sense for your needs. Many patients benefit from therapy alone or a combination of approaches.
03How long does it take to see results from treatment?
Everyone’s timeline is different, but most people begin noticing improvements within a few weeks of consistent therapy, medication adjustments, or both.
04How often are follow-up appointments?
Follow-ups typically happen every few weeks at the beginning, then less often as symptoms improve. Your psychiatrist adjusts the schedule based on your progress.
05What if I’m not sure what I’m feeling or how to explain it?
That’s completely okay. Part of the psychiatrist’s job is helping you put experiences into words and making sense of what you’re going through. You don’t need to have everything figured out before you come in.
